COMPENDEX is a database for engineering and the applied sciences (industrial chemistry, computer science, etc.). It's an index/abstract database which means that it does not have the full text articles. Use FindIt to link to articles. Note that COMPENDEX indexes many publications that we do not subscribe to, but you can almost always get the articles through Document Delivery. FindIt includes direct links to Document Delivery so it's easy to make a request.
Connect to COMPENDEX from our Database & Article Search page. Links are on the A - Z list and in all the engineering subject categories.
The COMPENDEX database covers 1969 to the present and is based on the print Engineering Index which began publication in 1884. The Cal Poly Pomona Library has volumes from 1892 into the 90s. They are shelved in Compact Shelving on the 1st floor.
The database title is derived from the title of the print index: COMPuterized ENgineering InDEX.
COMPENDEX is sometimes called Engineering Village or Ei Village. Engineering Village is a platform for a number of databases and other services from a company called Engineering Information (Ei). COMPENDEX is the only database available to us on the Engineering Information platform.
